 Cook  (Non-Exempt, 10-month, Part-Time)

Reports To: Kitchen Manager (8am-2pm, Monday-Friday)

Minimum Requirements 

  • Passionate commitment to helping Logos Academy be a vibrant learning community, committed to our 5C’s: Christ-centered, culturally diverse, community-minded, classically trained, and collaborative family partnerships
  • Physically able to lift up to 50 pounds and stand for long periods of time  
  • One year of experience required, three years of service preferred 
  • General math and computer skills required  
  • Graduation from high school or the equivalent
  • Takes initiative with responsibilities and develops new skills
  • Shows accountability and reliability 
  • Open to learning new tasks and flexibility
  • Serve –Safe Certification preferred 
  • NSLP experience preferred
  • Ability to work cooperatively with others

Major Responsibilities

Food Preparation and Service

  • Oversee preparation, and serving of student and adult meals according to the national school lunch program guidelines
  • Assist in recipe development to meet current nutritional standards and meal pattern requirements of the school meal program.
  • Assist in the serving of food correctly according to government requirements for the School Lunch Program for the upper and lower school
  • Assist with breakfast as needed in both the upper and lower school.
  • Understand and be able to perform all stations (duties) of the kitchen including cashier responsibilities
  • Assist in inventory of food and supplies 
  • Assist in the coordination of special food service functions.
  • Perform such other duties as assigned by the Kitchen Manager.

Food Safety

  • Understand the requirements of the School Breakfast Program and National School Lunch Program.
  • Ensure safe health practices in the preparation and serving of food in accordance with the Department of Health standards, the PA Department of Agriculture Food Code, HACCP protocol, and ServSafe principles.
  • Oversee the proper cleaning and sanitizing of the food service operations for the upper and lower schools.
  • Report equipment repair requirements and recommend required replacements or additions to the Kitchen Manager.
  • Report employee accidents promptly.

Team Collaboration

  • Perform such other duties as assigned by the Kitchen Manager.
  • Work cooperatively with Kitchen Manager, Faculty, and Principal(s)
  • Support an atmosphere for employee productivity and satisfaction; role modeling high professional standards for the program and its employees.
  • Obtain required yearly training for the position as required by the NSLP.
